Recent Movie Sightings

As usual Netflix has been a big hit in our house. We are avid DVD watchers. Sometimes there is just NOTHING on TV and watching a movie is the only thing to do. Yea I know... we could do something more productive, but what fun is that? And typically we watch movies at night. Or I'll watch a little piece of something while I'm folding clothes. Multi-tasking is always a good option!

So lately we've seen a decent handful of decent movies.

Hustle and Flow was a "never heard of it before but I'll get it anyway" choice. I am very glad I did! It turned out to be a really good movie. Sure the characters dropped the F-word like it was going out of style. But that doesn't bother me. The storyline is about a pimp who wants to make it as a rapper. He struggles with himself and outside sources. There are some catchy rap tunes and great actors. 4 /5 stars

Memento was an award nominee. Academy award maybe.... Anyhow, I watched it the other night and was so intrigued by the uniqueness of the movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat and trying to figure out what was going to happen next. A word of warning: Do NOT fall asleep during this movie because you will be completely lost when you wake up. It's very artsy and well done. 4/5 stars

March of the Penguins makes me so happy to be human! As much as any pregnant woman complains I'd be willing to bet they are happy they are not a penguin after seeing this movie. It is amazing that Penguins have survived and their species has not died out completely. This is an amazing movie with great, beautiful, awesome real footage. Beautifully done. 5/5 stars

The Wire is an HBO series that is just fantastic. We have been watching the second season and have one more disc before we'll be finished with it. That makes me mourn for more! This series is great. Right up there with so many other favorite cop and detective shows. If you enjoy Law and Order, 24, or The Shield you'll probably really enjoy this series. But be sure to start with season 1! 5/5 stars

Birth was absolutely horrible. I was appalled by so much in that movie. It was slooooowwww to begin with, and then the whole idea of a 10 year old and Nicole Kidman just disgusted me. I lost a lot of respect for Kidman after seeing this movie. It was really gross and I think a poor choice of characters for her to play. 2/5 stars

The Interpreter on the other hand was a very good film with Kidman as the star. Sean Penn was also in the movie and I just love him! This was another unique storyline and a suspensful movie. 4/5 stars

I've seen plenty of others such as The Island, 61*, and Four Brothers but I'll stop for now! If you've seen any of these movies and agree or disagree with me please leave a comment. I like having others opinions!

We toured the hospital yesterday

Since I am having this baby in a different hospital than I had the boys we had to find out where to go when the baby comes. I was impressed by some things but disappointed by others.

The previous hospital we used was John Randolph. It was great because the staff was wonderful, and the birthing rooms were very homey. I labor, delivered and recovered in one room. It was nice not having to move to another room like some of my friends have had to do when delivering their babies at different hospitals.

Unfortunately the hospital I'm delivering at this time is not so homey. MCV is a great hospital but they are a bit behind the times since they do not have LDRP rooms (labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum). Actually they have two of them but they come with extra fees. Instead they have separate labor rooms, delivery rooms and then postpartum rooms. In fact the postpartum rooms are on a different floor! It's very distressing for me since I am used to having it all in one. I know what it's like to be comfortable, and I hate to give that up this time. But I do not have a choice.

Actually I do. I could probably go back to John Randolph Hospital if I wanted to. But that would mean seeing an OB and not a midwife. The reason I chose MCV is because it's the only hospital around that has midwives! It's very sad! And beyond frustrating! So for now I will be delivering at MCV with a midwife.

Only 6 weeks left until my due date. And that means 6 weeks of me stressing out about the hospital situation. Why can't things be easier?!

Birds of a Feather

What is it with birds and this family? In case you missed it my post about the buzzard is priceless. And now this....

A few days ago the boys were outside playing in the yard. I was inside getting things straight to make dinner. Remember, we live in the woods, down a private drive so I feel comfortable letting them stay outside on their own for short periods of time. Anyhow. They were actually within my sight in the back yard smacking down weeds with sticks. It's a favorite past time for both.

I'm busy putting dishes away when I hear footsteps on the deck steps. I look over and see C coming up the steps holding something by two fingers and yelling "Momma. Momma! Mooooommmmaaaaa!"

I went to the door hesitantly because I had no idea what the child could be holding. As I got closer it came in to focus and I realized it's a dead bird. Ah geez... Where in the world did he find a dead bird?

"Hey Momma. We found something," C says through the door. Realizing it was a bird I flung open the sliding door and started ranting. "Put that down! Where'd you find it? Don't pick up dead animals! That's gross! Yuck! Put that down!"

C stands there staring at me and finally realizes that amongst the jumbled ranting I was telling him to put it down. He turns and flings it off the deck so it lands in the middle of the back yard. Great. The woods would have been my first choice of disposal areas.

I continue to lecture and explain to him that there is no reason for him to pick up a dead animal. Why in the world would anyone want to????

Minutes later the kids are back in the yard hitting weeds and I'm thinking to myself how gross that kid is! He is afraid of nothing!

I have to laugh because in hindsight it was quite comical. I mean, some kids come home with rocks and frogs and bugs. My kid? Dead birds.

(The next afternoon I found out why the bird was even dead in the first place. My husband told me that when he was watching football on Sunday afternoon he heard something whack the back window. The poor little bird had ran himself into the big arch window above the back door and broken his neck. There are still a few feathers stuck to the outside of the window to prove it. At least I know he was not carrying Avian flu or West Nile Virus.... geesh.)

Um..... hi......

Did ya miss me? Did ya worry about me? Did ya think I'd gone off and had a baby?

Well, thanks, thanks and nope, no baby yet.

Honestly, I'm not sure why I haven't posted in so long. Yes, I've been busy. But I've had a little itme here and there to post and just haven't. I've thought about it almost daily but it just didn't happen. You know how that goes....

Okay, enough about that. Let me quickly bring you up to speed. Christmas was great. The boys were thrilled. The big move took place on December 27 and they are now in a room together. It's gone very well. New Year's was fine. Then New Year's Day my grandfather passed away a bit unexpectedly, at least for me it was. School started back on January 3. Thank goodness. Baby's doing well. According to my midwife he's big already. Woohoo. And I'm sleeping like crap.

Are you caught up? A lot has happened in between but nothing too major.

Overall everything is going well.

In case I disappear again please don't fret. I have my hands full with trying to get things ready for #3. I have so much to do still and only 50 days to go until my due date! Amen and holy cow! But I'll try and drop in when I can.

I wanted to extend a great big thank you to all of you who have faithfully read my blog. I promise to bring you bigger and better entries in the near future. I just have to get my real life in order first! :o) THANK YOU!
